The Soul Of The Abstract
Iain Taylor uses Acrylic Paints and Inks to create vibrant Abstract Art based on emotion and life experiences.
Iain uses an assortment of different tools to create marks and textures on canvas,paper,plywood and card. He especially likes to create work at an A4 size on 240gsm Photographic card. This creates small but highly concentrated paintings, full of movement and vibrancy.

Why I Am Like I Am
I was always fascinated by colours from a very early age. I remember seeing reflections from items casting Prism like colours in the bright sun. Bold textiles and decor, colours in Nature and tumbled stone patterns. Shiny boxes of crayons and coloured pencils, both of which I would much rather have had than a football. I suppose growing up in the 1960's and 70's would account for some of the vibrant exposure.
I enjoyed Art at school but soon realised drawing objects and scenes was something I did not connect with. I wanted to be free to go where ever the art took me. I loved colouring patterns and creating shapes. Once I realised the use of Pen and Ink I used to doodle complex lines and random artwork, sometimes adding coloured ink as well. I had found my comfort zone. Art that was purely Emotive Abstraction.
By my early teens I had found Music and Drumming. This came into my life and gave me a huge outlet for creativity, my artwork dimmished. Gone but not forgotten.
Many many years later I took up photography and started to create Greeting Cards and Prints to sell into shops. These were mostly landscapes from around West Cumbria and The Lakes. I also started to dabble with Digital Art and found I was able to create all sorts of abstract stuff using an ipad and pencil. I had some measure of success with these items, but I was increasingly asked about Original Paintings. Difficult with Digital!
In 2016 I put my first ever brush to canvas using Acrylic Paints. My work has been developing slowly ever since. I spent a couple of years producing and learning to make marks on surfaces. I have done small to medium sized work. But find both equally satisfying.
After about five years of caring for my parents, and trying to deal with my own failing Mental Health, I now have arrived at the time to start again. I use my emotions and life experiences to create what I do. I work quickly without any planning, whatever happens is the result. Some I keep, some I don't.
